Sometimes you've got champagne taste and cola budget, and for that great look of fine old French flatware, but without investing thousands of dollars to have sterling silver, we're offering this nice suggestion. Yes, silver plated instead of sterling, all but the knives are marked with the Maison Christofle silversmith hallmarks and date to the late 1800s were sure. The knives not original to the set but antique themselves, ebony or ebonized wood handles with perfectly usable stainless steel blades and they compliment the set wonderfully. Think of it this way, you get all the elegance of old French flatware but without the sterling price tag! All great, heavy dinner sized pieces and with all of the elegance of our French sterling silver sets! A great old French set, don't miss it! Very good to excellent condition. Some faint surface scuffing and there are a few of the small teaspoons that have a bit of wear-through of the silver plating at the very tips of the bowls.No other losses to the silver plating, all thick and proving why Christofle is a world renowned French silversmith, especially notable when it comes to old plate. The box may not be original, all pieces except for the salad fork & spoon fit perfectly though and its great for storage (as the set came to us from France).
