ELEGANT VINTAGE CHRISTOFLE MARLY PATTERN SILVER PLATED SPOON AND FORK SERVING SET. Offered is an elegant vintage silver plated spoon and fork serving set by Christofle, Marly pattern.
Spoon and fork weigh together 228 grams 8.0 oz. They are both marked at the edge of the neck: "knight" chess figure between "O" and "C" in a square box and France (pictured). Also marked OC within oval/square and Christofle (pictured). They both measure 25 cm 9.8 in.
Long and the spoon measures 6.5 cm 2.6 in. Wide at the bowl while the fork measures 3 cm 1.2 in. They are both in excellent condition with brilliant luster and no silver plate loss, dents, chips or cracks (pictured). There are minor hairline scratches. Marly, named after a no-longer-standing pleasure palace built by Louis XIV outside Paris, has been one of the most detailed and ornate patterns in the Christofles catalog since it was created in 1897.
The fine chasing is an exquisite example of Rocaille with its asymmetrical crawling plant and shell motifs. Launched in 1890, this pattern expresses the lavish refinement of the French Table. With its natural decoration & voluptuous curves, Marly is characteristic of the Louis XV style.
