This item belongs to highly popular Christofle Chinon silverplate collection. The CHINON pattern (originally known as'Filets') is one of the first patterns created by Christofle, it dates back to 1862.
Chinon owes its name to a small town on the banks of the Loire river which is characterized by a medieval castle built on the rocky heights dominating the town and made famous for being the site of the first meeting between Joan of Arc and King Charles VII. Chinon is typical of the Empire Style.
The classical lines and simplicity of CHINON made it a favorite amongst many crowned heads of state: it was selected for the table of the Emperor Maximilian of Mexico for his palace at Chapultepec; the Duke of Aumale, son of King Louis Philippe chose it for his private use for the Castle of Chantilly. The Emperor Napoleon III selected it for several of his ministries and administrations during the Second Empire, and more recently by the Prince of Lichenstein and the Princess of Luxembourg.
