Christofle MALMAISON Silverplated Fish Knives Set of Six. French Silver-maker Christofle is an enduring symbol of luxury, elegance and prestige in the art of silver.Inspired by Napoleon III, MALMAISON, one of Christofle's most successful patterns to date, was created in 1909. Its palmette relief, a decorative element which resembles a stylized palm leaf, is very characteristic of the French Empire Style. Napoleon had imposed the palmette design through most of the Decorative Arts of the period as it symbolized his past and future victories. The castle of Malmaison, on the outskirts of Paris was Napoleon's preferred week-end getaway and the permanent residence of the Empress Josephine.
