ANTIQUE 36 pc MOTHER OF PEARL & SILVER PLATE DESSERT CUTLERY SET- SHEFFIELD
This 36 piece antique silver plate flatware service (18 forks and 18 knives) appears to be of Sheffield origin--probably from the late 1800's--from an unidentified maker. Nice etched design on knife blades and forks. The mother of pearl handles are fluted lengthwise and around the handle at the top and bottom. The bottoms of the handles are flat--not rounded like in most sets. The ferrules appear to be sterling silver, but that is not confirmed. The knife is 7-7/8" long; the fork 6-1/2" long.
Five hallmarks, including what appears to be the Sheffield standard crown mark. The forks are in fabulous condition. The knives some scratches and wear commensurate with use and age. A few of the mother of pearl handles have some dark areas. A gorgeous and complete set with locking box, but no skeleton key.
The box exterior is in very good condition. The interior of the box is green velvet with teal colored tufted silk and is in very good condition.
