ANTIQUE ALLEN & DARWIN SILVER PLATE 24 PC flatware SET HEAVY ENGRAVING CASE -cc
She got this 45 years ago for a wedding gift and has never used it! Excellent condition mother of pearl and silver plated set in its original oak box.
The knives and forks are elegantly and intricately engraved as you can see in pictures. The knives are all hallmarked, A & D S with the hourglass next to it which is that of Charles James Allen & Sidney Darwin, who were registered in Sheffield, and were working from around 1879. The forks are be made by the same company, and it is no surprise that they are not marked the same as the knives, as this was often the case.
The reason for this is simply that there is a lot more room to mark the knives than the forks. The mother of pearl is in excellent condition. The set is in original fitted oak box with a brass inlaid plaque (which has never been engraved). The box is in good condition with the exception of a crack that runs about 3 along the top of the box, on the left side and some of the expected dings and scratches. The interior is an exquisite red velvet, beautiful condition. Each knife is approximately 8 inches in length and the forks are 7 inches long.The case measures approximately 12 inches x 10 inches x 2-1/2 inches. An exceptional set as you can see in pictures.
