Antique silver plate condiment set including three stoppered cruets, a salt shaker, a pepper shaker, and a jam or mustard jar with spoon. Upon first glance, I thought all of the pieces matched, but upon closer inspection, I realized that one cruet, the jam jar, and one shaker are the same, and that the other shaker and two other cruets, while very similar, are actually pieces from a different set.
Furthermore, it appears that the shaker collar was put on with too much glue, causing the cap, which is also bent, to sit at an angle. This cap is also marked EPNS on the side. The differences between the two sets, while not immediately noticeable, are many.
First, three of them are hand blown, hand cut, leaded crystal with polished pontil bases and polished rims. The other three are hand mold blown glass, not leaded crystal, not cut, and without pontils, but do have polished bases and rims. Seams are visible on these pieces, and the glass is more yellow, not as clear as the crystal. The sizes are also slightly different. The mold blown set is 1-7/8 inches in diameter and the crystal set is 2 inches in diameter, and there are some slight variations in height.Furthermore, the cruets (all three of them) have chips on the rim (pictured), and the size of the square patterns are slightly different. The silver plate holder is signed on the bottom EPNS and has an English silver plate maker's mark for Martin and Hall.
It measures 5 inches long. It was with the set when I acquired it, and it has a lovely twisted handle. Please review the photos for a complete description.
